James joined the Supported Internship programme straight after finishing college. James was very keen to progress into employment but felt he would need some support. His goal was to become a Fitness Instructor however he had no experience. James was supported to complete a work placement at a local leisure centre to give him some exposure to the industry. James’s role was working on reception and helping out with cleaning duties, supported by a London Ability job coach to help him learn his duties. The employer was so impressed with James’s motivation and commitment, and after 3 months on his placement they offered James paid employment. James continues to be supported by London Ability to enable him to sustain his employment. He has now moved to another role at the London Aquatic Centre as he continues to develop his career.
James said, “I would recommend any young person to pick up the phone and call London Ability. This is the best mentor I have ever had.”
