Lukman joined the Supported Internship programme having recently left education with a desire to progress into a job. Lukman’s enthusiasm and dedication stood out from the start, however some serious health issues led to him having to take an extended break from the programme. London Ability supported Lukman throughout this time, our flexible approach meant that he was able to re-join once his health had recovered sufficiently. Lukman worked closely with his mentor to arrange a series of placements with different employers, designed to build his resilience, confidence and practical skills. Lukman’s mentor also worked with him to boost his interpersonal skills and encouraged him to exercise to build his physical strength. It has taken Lukman 3 years of determination to achieve his employment goal, but we always knew that Lukman would fulfil his undoubted potential. Lukman continues to be supported by London Ability to enable him to sustain his employment. He can travel to work independently and has also continued with his voluntary role at a local food bank.
Lukman’s mum told us, “Lukman is like a new man”.
